Nowadays, the presence of ice in the Region XII has diminished. The only proof of this natural element is The South Ice Field; an enormous mass of glacier continental ice which scatters its five glacier tongues within the limits of the park.  It can be distinguished from north to south, Dickson Glacier, Grey Glacier, Pingo Glacier, Zapata Glacier and Tyndall Glacier (these two last are of minor dimension).

The presence of “ice resource” in the park is really important, as much as the scientific point of view as the scenic. The andino glaciers are made out in the own massif from the glacier tongues already mentioned. They come from the Ice Field because of its genesis, morphological and dynamic characteristics which are completely different. Its territorial significance is different, because the first ones occupy 5.131 hectares and the second ones have more than 28.000 hectares.
